Friday nights have become date nights for the Rawlings family and after last week's show, Sande and I decided to go visit our friend Majid Ghavami at his fine Italian restaurant on Frankfort Avenue, Volare!
I must qualify myself before I begin this review. First, I looooove Italian cuisine. It makes me feel all wiggly inside. You don't have to be Italian to prepare an Italian dish, but you have to be damn good to do it. Italian cooking is for PROFESSIONALS ONLY. Second, I think Majid Ghavami is one of the classiest gentlemen I've ever met. You meet Majid - you like Majid. It's that simple. And he always remembers you. He's one in a zillion.
Third, and most importantly, I am NOT one of those stuffy, anal food critics. I don't get all bent out of shape if the wine list doesn't include a Chateau des Rontets Pouilly Fuisse. I am a knowledgeable consumer. Very knowledgeable and very much a consumer. I'm more like the average eat-outer. Like you!
Volare is a powerfully sexy restaurant. Bring your honey when you come to Volare. The decor is tasteful and elegant and the service is truly outstanding. You'll enjoy just being there.
I ordered my favorite Italian dish, Veal Parmigiana - Sande ordered the Pappardelle Boscaiola. We both ordered the house salads and we wrapped up with our dessert favorite crème brulée.
The house salads were scrumptious, of course, and Majid's bread was nothing short of amazing. But the biggest "wow" factor of the night was the entree presentation. Our meals were so beautiful that we (almost) hated to eat them! If God were a chef, THIS is how he would present a dish. And everything - salad, entree and dessert - was presented as if they were works of art!
They tasted just as good! My veal, lightly breaded and topped with a mild tomato sauce and mozzerella, was perfectly prepared and fork tender. The side dish, pasta marinara, was ample and tender. Sande's Pappardelle Boscaiola, a pasta tossed with a soothing mixture of mushrooms, bacon and cream, was just delightful. Oh, and dessert - Majid's dessert chef is a true master of the craft - could not have been better. Volare serves several different flavors of crème brulée on different nights and I've tried most of them and all get high marks from us and TravelHost.
We always leave Volare happy and satisfied and this night was no different. Volare gets our highest rating for atmosphere, service and food quality. Download their menu here - volaremenu.pdf
