Derby Cafe Review

posted Sunday, 5 August 2007

My colleague Ron Zolkiewicz and I had lunch Friday at the Derby Cafe and we're delighted to report that the food was excellent as was the ambience. The Derby Cafe is located in the same building as the Kentucky Derby Museum, on Central Avenue just south of U of L. We were greeted at the door and our wait staff was superb. Ron and I both ordered the loaded potato soup and the special of the day, meat lasagna. The potato soup was very nicely prepared. It was thick, but not too thick. It was nicely garnished with bacon crumbles and a touch of parsley for color. No bread, unfortunately, but otherwise was really great. The meat lasagna was full of meat and just might have been the best lasagna I've ever tasted - almost as good as what mom used to make! Toasted garlic bread was - eh, but the food and service was truly excellent!
